Fished the Veatch Canyon Thursday- Friday. 82 degree water in the canyon. Trolled up and down and all around. Caught some nice Mahi and had a Marlin in the spread but no Tuna. Set up for the night chunk and it was a long wait but my crew hung in there!!! All the action started at 2 am and it was non-stop. 50lb to 30 lb Yellowfin as fast as we could get them in. 40 lb flouro with live Blue Runners or live squid and you had them right at the back of the boat. Butterfish also worked too but live bait was an instant hook up. I put one little tiny blue runner that we had left and we all laughed because the 7/0 hook was as big as the little fish. I hooked it thru the top of the eye and put it in the water and BAM it was hooked up!!!
Also lost several more due to the light leader and off course the non-stop mayhem. Wish I caught more squid and Blue Runners while it was slow. There is also a 3-4 degree break about 30 miles in that looked real good. lots of life but also a lot of weed there. It was a 380 mile round trip for us straight through from Milford CT and back but well worth it. Good Luck out there!!!!
Thanks to my crew, Adam, Rich, Dave and Mark!!!!
Pictures to follow when the camera man wakes up.
