Our whole system of government regarding fisheries is full of conflict of interest issues. Our National Marine fisheries is advised by nothing but conflict of interest. Laws and regulations are decided by avoiding conflict and not facts and data. Economic Impact for one is taken into consideration before considering the economic impact for millions. By allowing these non discriminatory types of fishing who have an economic value in the millions. They are destroying a fishery worth billions to recreational and small rod and reel commercial fishermen.

Accidents happen, but only because of a series of events. Eliminate one of the steps of the series of events and you eliminate the accidents. Remove mid water trawling from coastal waters where they can make mistakes with under sized or protected species of fish. Enforce Regulations and remove the tempting situations. Like when the fish are breading or are congregating during migration. All of these rules are made and enforced by the NMFS or local fishing governments but they consistently make the rules and do not enforce the rules to avoid conflict of interest. Our fisheries interest are not voted on, the laws are made by people who are appointed and getting "paid" to make or change the laws. Any appointed committee is going to have conflict of interest or is going to avoid it. Its time we started voting for the people who represent us. Until then keep getting pissed off at our fisheries government.
