    the ugly and the fog

Left Bass River yesterday (Sunday 6/26) at 5 am heading East of Chatham. Run across the sound was good until about 2 miles from the tip of Monomoy then the fog rolled in thick. Made our way out to the SE corner of Crab ledge and set out the spread. Marked some bait but not anywhere near what we usually find this time of year. Fog lifted around 8am and we saw a couple of whales and a Tuna here and there. Fleet was really spread out and chatter on the radio was about another slow day. Heard of one fish taken in the morning. guys fishing the inside were saying they were seeing a lot of Bass and Blues. Stuck it out until afternoon slack when the fog rolled right back in on top of us. Had a foggy, slow run home all the way to the mouth of Bass River. Think it might be time to check out the sword.

Nothing different to report from the bank area. Fog lifted, some fish here and there - mainly singles. Did see some commercial fish being taken in a bunch of different areas but without any concentration. The slug of smaller fish that had moved in for a few days has moved off to greener pastures. Don't know of anyone that saw them yesterday but the way it has been they may well be back again today.

Whales are finally moving up the backside in good numbers. Not many on the bank yet, but they're close and hopefully that is a good harbinger.

Thanks for the reports guys. When the fish are spread out and the fog rolls in, they are a really tough target to shoot at. You have to play "Blind Squirrel."
