I just heard that the tuna slot limit passed last night.
No possession of 60-72" fish.... can anyone confirm this?

Kind of like closing the barn door after the horses have run away..... a year too late. Capt. Eric
If this is true then the Commercial guys got just what they wanted!!!! I'll be joining their ranks come June 1st.
Why go commercial when you can still fish catch and release and then keep anything in the 50 inch class. If you go commercial you will not be able to keep anything for the table, instead you will be fishing catch and release on everything and hoping and praying that something bigger than 73 swims by.
We just upgraded to larger setups to target larger fish. Most of the fish this year will fall into the"new slot". How many fish under 60" did you catch last year? For us it was less then 10%, alot less. I'm more then a little annoyed by this change, if it's true.

Because I think history shows the main body of fish comming back this season just at or a little bit larger than the 73" mark. I spent quite a bit of time on the water last season and did not come accross any of the 50" fish that we saw a couple years ago. All the fish I saw were in the mid 60" class which would land them just within the higher end of that slot or over thus being a giant. The point of the slot limit, if the one above is true, is to preserve the main body of fish that I guess the NMFS believes to be the 60"-72" fish. I won't be one of them but if they impose such a slot limit I think you commercial guys will have alot more guys jumping into the general catagory and trying to make a buck this season.
