I don't think so. I have been reading posts from guys on just about every site I log onto preaching that these fish this season can be taken on inadequate gear. I'm sorry but I'm with Gman on this one. Those of us that want to continue fishing for these fish from here on out are going to have to buck up and buy quality gear. I keep hearing people say that there is no way they are going to spend 500-1000 dollars on a spinning reel? I know thats a tough pill to swallow but you owe it to yourself and the fish, if you plan on releasing it, a shorter and faster fight time.

You guys are doing the right thing by preaching to these guys about quality gear. Personally I dont like casting to these fish, but I know there are plenty of guys that do. There is a time and place for this practice and these fish just keep coming back bigger. The last thing we need is a whole bunch of 250lb tuna swimming around with 100 yards of line to there face because of inadequate gear.

    tuna on spingear

Pete call Captain Terry Nugent, he is on the Cape. He mainly spin casts to tuna and is good at what he does. Learn from a pro.
