I was watching the buoy last night and saw wave heights about 28 feet around 750pm with wind gusts to 50mph. So, not surprised this happened.
There have been 20 foot waves and sustained winds over 40 knots for almost 20 straight hours, so quite a strain on the anchorage.
This is drifting pretty fast now but should slow when the winds drop.

Here is today's position of the 44066 drifter. It is about 175 miles from its mooring. Be fun to see where it is heading. Not far from the Gulf Stream at the moment.
