Someone just told me there's a website where you can see the daily tuna auction in Tsukiji with fish origins.
Anyone know the link? Friend's fish is on auction today.

which one is the dress weight?
sounds like a great day... but thats not what gets returned to the boat...my guesstimate is about 4k.
if that was his fish that went for the 4800 yen
still not bad tho
Just a note that there are more than one acution houses for bluefin in Japan but that one is the main one. With gross selling prices in that range the boat should net about 60% of the gross sale price. At lower prices the net could be under 50% since US handling and air fare is normally a fixed cost per pound.
After deducting the dealers commission (5%), Japan selling costs (15%), airfreight and U.S. expenses ($3.00/lb), Y 4800/kg would net out at about USD $17.50/lb at the current exchange rate (Y85/USD).
remember the world works in kilo's. To convert lbs to kg divided lb/ 2.2046. example = 1000 / 2.2046 = 453.5 kg
we should all have this problem...lol
