    Trolling with outboards??????

I have been trolling for the last 2 years (over 40 trips to the bank) on my outboard boat and still no tuna to show for it! Whats the deal with outboards? I have a 24 foot center console with an E-tec 250. The spread looks great. Last weekend we trolled through breaking fish for 8 hours. Just before we packed it up a diesel boat pulled up and put 2 bars in the water. Within 10 minutes he hooked up.frustrating to say the least! It would seem to me that the diesel boats have a clear advantage. Is there anyone on this forum that regulary hooks up with tuna on the bank with an E-tec? Or am I just NUTS? Thanks Jesse

Are you sure your tackle is ok. Is your line to heavy , are you using terminal takle that's too large, are your rigs all rigged properly, there are sooooo many variables .

I bought several bars from a local guy on the South Shore for $125-$150 a pop. They didnt do shit. I took them to Taylor Sears and he took one look at them and said "these are all wrong". He re-rigged them and they all have caught fish since. I've learned how to rig them since but still take mine to Taylor because they now catch fish. If it ain't broke....

So many variables as he said.

Focus on fishing where the active fish are and getting your tackle as close to perfect as you can. Plenty of tuna are caught trolling out of outboard boats.

I can attest to Jesse's boat not being able to raise fish. All day we trolled through fish with out so much as a fish come up to check out the bars.

Some people say there is an advantage to diesel boats, I for one disagree. The first boat I fished tuna in was a 24' Wellcraft with a noisy two stroke outboard-There were days when I outfished full time tuna fishermen. The next boat was an inboard gas 25'. Again I had no lack of fish coming into my spread.

I would spend some time looking through your tackle, re evaluating it, and if that still doesnt work you may want to consider hiring a captain to hop on your boat for a day and help give you some insight on what they would do different. It would be well worth it to shell out a few hundred for a pro's services considering how much $ in fuel we burn chasing them around. Capt Fred

The etec in absolutely not the issue. Two summer ago we raised 10 fish in our first 6 trips since the re-power. Must be the spread.

I trolled for two years on my old boat with twin yammies, no love! Troll the same spread on my new boat, 1st day, LOVE! I think some HULLS are better than others! My opinion, i hope to be proved wrong!
