    Trim Tabs

Can anyone give me some feedback on the Lenco trim tabs? Do you see a benefit to going with the electric tabs instead of the hydraulic? Aside from Bennett are there any other makes that I should be looking at or staying away from?

    Thanks for your help.

no pump, no fluid, immediate response, great customer service. you touch the button the tab moves. period. but lets face thats why they still make both chocolate and vanilla....dave

Have you tried the Lenco and had a bad experience? They sure seem a lot easier to install and have a lot less parts that could fail than the hydraulic ones. The 3 year warranty sounds good too.

I have Lencos on one boat and Bennetts on the other. Both are good, but when I put tabs on the flats boat being built, they will be Lencos. I've never had to do a thing to them in the 3 years I've owned them yet with the Bennetts, I've had to work on them twice in the same year...

I oversee the maint. on about 300 boats annually, If the Bennets are installed and sized properly they are very reliable, I have seen problems with the Lencos, They can be expensive to fix after the 3 year warrenty expires. Both have their drawbacks but I like the Bennets if I had to choose.

The first boat I ever owned had Lencos. It was a 2001 20' SeaCraft and I had to replace the actuators 3 different times @$180 apiece. I could never understand how the company could say that the actuators are fully submersible, maintenance free, and sealed for life when all 3 of my failures were due to water intrusion into the electric motor and gear system thus causing them to fail. They are easy to install and to replace, I became a pro after doing it 3 times. Since then the next two boats I have owned have had Bennetts and I have never had an issue.

I too have replaced the actuators on my lencos as well, I also had the control box meltdown which lenco told me was a factory defect problem that they had in the past with my tabs

For hydraulics you could also consider Insta-Trim. They're OE on my Hatteras and their customer service has been excellent.
