In today's world, they'll plead no contest, Continued without a finding plea agreement and 12 months probation and submit to random drug and alcohol screening.

Bite me
Thank God for internet! bet ya anything one of the boats that had items stolen off of belonged to a cop. That is only way they stayed after them for 9 mos. I'm glad they did but we're still trying to track down a pair of 130's set up from 5 yrs ago. Good to be a cop eh? Hope all cases turn out the same and if the judge lets em go, well, we know what they look like now!

I have some friends that worked with the fuzz on this. The scam was to post the items on ebay first. If someone bought it, THEN they would go steal it. Scumbags.

No sense of humor for those who even tough other peoples property uninvited... Marine thieves are the lowest of low in my book and if a cop went above and beyond the call of duty with his baton in Rodney King fashion on em you'ld never hear a complaint... Unfortunately our justice system will let em off light. Shame that we can't just offer up a 230 grain FMJ shampoo and be done with em... Scum of the earth...

On a much smaller scale
I have my boat on a small cove in Narragansett Bay. Several of the larger boats at the slips were missing a reel here, or a GPS there, but nothing of a pattern. Then they hit one boat really hard. As you can imagine, that marina is a real boys club. Everyone knows each other and they all pretty much get along. They call the local harbor master and police. The boat owners set up their own sting operation. A bunch of them, spread out across the whole marina, slept in their boats for days - just waiting for the next hit. Sure enough, the guys came back, made a haul and were greeted Great Escape-style with flood lights in the eyes when they went to walk ashore.
The harbormaster has become a friend of mine and you could just see how great he felt to have made a difference when he was telling me the story. It was pretty cool. I think they actually recovered a bunch of the other boat's missing gear too. I love that!!

The idiots thought they found themselves a full time job. Fools + greed = caught.
Hope they get the max.
