P3 Orion has turbo props no afterburners on that plane. but they do tend to belch a lot of smoke when aloft. They used to do touch and go's at the Air Force base where i was stationed many moons ago. Very cool plane but the U2's and SR-71's were much more exciting to see doing T&G's than the P3's.

Hmmm...I suppose that could have been it. I dunno. It was pretty far away. Interesting read. Thanks for the info.

Saw the copter with the cables dangling go by 3-4 times last week too. August of 01, we were doing aireal recon south of the Vineyard in my buddies plane. 2 F-18's pulled up besides us, then left. A few minutes later, they were rite off our wing, they couldnt fly as slow as us, so gradually 1 pulled away, the second guy, being a smart ass, thought it would be funny to pull up in front of us, and hit the throttles. My friend that owns the plane told me to hold on, we got rocked pretty bad, and were only at 700 feet. This could have been a real tragedy, very easily. Through a few connection to the Airforce (brother retired pilot) he knew someone who knew the base commander. Message got through to the pilot, although I never got the name!! Another trick they like to do, this goes back to the early 80's. Fly upbehind you as your trolling or running and then pull up at supersonic speed, and cause a sonic boom rite on top of you, shook the entire boat, you nevfer hear them coming, just an enourmous KABOOM!!
We were gonna doa flyover last week to visit the floatilla at the Figs, but the airspace is restricted now, and you need to file a flite plan.

Chum, didn't you say you hooked up with something recently that didn't even come close to slowing down? How much drag do you have to put on a torpedo to turn it?
