left B.I. Sun morning to get fuel in Pt. Judith. right outside harbor port engine starts clanking hellishly. engine cooked. get on phone, find boat to take us for tournament. Lisa Marie out of point Jude. Fellow charter guy and excellent captain. boat is 38' H&H. decide to go tues/wed. drop em in over the edge south of the tails. catch three mahi. on bait, they wouldn't bite on the troll. no skippies. not anywhere. at three pm tues, start seeing skippies. follow them around for TWO HOURS. nada. see som tuna busting. drive over them. long right rigger goes off(green & yellow wahoo head tormenter behind four 5" reel draggin' tackle birds). keep going. keep going. keep going. keep going. only one fish hits!!! only tuna of trip. 60 pound yellow.
Wed morning starts to rain. no fish. head in around noon. starts raining harder & harder. sky gets black. by the time we're forty miles out of B.I. wind is blowing 40 plus, waves sreaking & foaming! 8' to 10'. sure am glad the boat we were in had 15' beam!
very slow fishing. we were one of three boats out of all the guys there that got even one fish. water dirty green/grey/blue
temps between 74-79. no weed, a few dolphins and beluga whales, couple of large brown sharks. saw some rays, had them up to the boat at night. plenty of squid at night, just no tuna bites. Oh, well. get em next time!
