    Arrow General consensus says...

Well after all the great response from everyone... There is the basic equipment for any offshore bound vessels:

    • Class 1 offshore life vests with attached
    -mini strobe light
    -whistle

    • EPIRB or PLB

    • Hand held VHF radio

    • Offshore flare kit
    -handheld flares
    -parachute flares
    -smoke canisters

    • Sea anchor

    And either or both, below.

    • Gumbi suits
    Or
    • Life Raft

(And what we know from the P-Town incident is water temp Will kill you quicker than you think up in new England! So don't allow your body to be exposed to it for to long)

*food for thought, someone here did mention he'd rather be in a raft than floating in the water with all the sharks! That and it's easier to spot large raft from afar than a Bobbing head!!
    }Safe Voyages to you all...

    12. I ask if anyone has medical problems and if so do they have their medication. ( I usually look at the old guy when I say this) OK "Kamo" you can defend the Old Guys too

Nah, I don't defend the elderly; they're usually mean and crotchety enough to fend for themselves. I'll be sure to bring my anti-psychotic meds if I ever book with you. Fair warning!

Just having the emersion suits aboard may not be enough if you have not practiced donning them under controlled conditions. We practiced @ work quarterly! Often seeing whom can properly don suit in shortest time (properly).

    Required gear

This is my first year with a 20' WA. I have gone with a PFD at all times for all occupants. I haven't had any complaints...except my 17 year old son (and he is working on his Eagle Scout rank)....go figure...he thinks he knows everything.

I did have guests last year on another boat (Freedom Boating Club) and they baulked at the PFD rule...this year I won't give in.

When out fishing alone I now have the kill switch on. I have to improve in terms of stuffing my hand held VHF in the vest pocket...and compose a ditch bag too.

Looks like I need to do more learning about the sea anchor materials and techniques...ahead of when I need it!
