Surf & Turf - Seaker Style
I had a yacht delivery scheduled for this Saturday but due to weather forecasting and conditions it had to be cancelled. Upon confirming with the servicing dealer it was determined that an engine problem was evident and I was thankful that it wasn’t me finding that out while at sea. Armed with new found time I quickly put together a crew for Seaker to explore the Stripe Bass situation in Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound. We went lines of at 0500 this morning under overcast and windy conditions. Upon leaving our channel we found active birds and fish in short order. Most of these fish were short meaning less than the required 28 inch minimum but they were willing and able to give it up. We were most appreciative to educate them by quickly releasing everything we caught….except on nice legal fish which will be dinner tonight…but I’m getting ahead of myself.
We left our close to home vicinity to splore other locations for larger fish. We ran down Buzzard Bay and enjoyed a light breakfast while enroute. Upon arriving at Quick’s Hole we found more life but the fish seemed to have a case of I’m not hungry..We caught a couple then Scott hung a beauty. It took him by sufficient surprise to make him think he had snagged bottom only we were drifting at 2 Kts and line was running off at 12 Kts….Oh well we educated another one…We pushed on to Devil’s Bridge and stopped a well visited site and found no joy…After spending some time in the turbulent and confused water and wind we decided t head back to Quick’s for a take on the other tide….We found a small group of nice fish significantly larger than our early morning friends and made several drifts until an east wind just shut it down…
We steamed back to Buzzards Bay enjoying some great sandwiches and stories for the next hour plus…Upon arriving near home lo and behold I spied three of my missing lobster pots…..Oh Joy!!!!! We gathered them only to find three brave soldiers in the first one…none in the second and the third well it’s waiting for a return visit after snagging the running gear of Seaker and escaping twice…..
So there you have it…about four different rain storms..wind from every compass direction..an awesome crew of guyz who knew how to be guyz..Breakfast, lunch and I forgot to mention someone brought a bag o fresh cooked shrimp…Fresh coffee, Bagels, doughnuts, shrimp, sandwiches…and surf & turf Seaker Style…Striper and Lobstah for tonight entrée…It’s all good!
