surf fishing the vineyard this weekend - should I?

hey guys - i'm heading to the vineyard this weekend, staying in edgartown. i'm wondering if it's worth bringing the surf rod with me, or is it too early? any thoughts, pros or cons? can't hurt to bring and take a few casts nonetheless. thanks. dj

every report I have read from cape cod to the north shore says there are fish around, there are bigger fish around the herring runs all over the coastline

cool. thank you. spoke to a couple other friends offline that pretty much convinced me to bring some gear. might as well get the girlfriend familiar with what spring fishing is all about!

The fish have been on the S side since April 4th. Mostly schoolies showing, but plenty of them. The squid and herring are around too so you shouldn't have a problem finding the fish. Walk into Larry's tackle Shop and ask the boys there to help you out. They will put you on the fish!

Can't say I gave it the best effort, but did manage to cast a few. No luck to report, but did hear similar reports as stated above. On another note, got the boat in the water (finally). If Capt Corey is on this site, great meeting you. thanks again.
