If you are thinking safety, I have just the thing: Globalstar satellite phones in waterproof cases. I have plain phones, and car kits installed in Pelican 1450 cases. The phones are unused, still have plastic covering the window. I wanted to have a phone I could take offshore that had a hands-free speakerphone/handset, and still keep it perfectly dry. Nothing was available commercially....so I made my own. My friends loved the one I made so much, they wanted one too! So I bought the components and have made a few, and have them for sale.
The unused phone and car kits are installed in a brand new Pelican case with NO HOLES drilled in it. All power leads, antennas, data cables, owners manuals, etc. necessary to plug and play are included. You plug into a 12 volt charger outlet, put the antenna on top of your wheelhouse/console, turn the phone on.......and you're good to go. You can remove the phone from the docking station and use it separately as a handheld by extending the built-in antenna. The phone and kit comes with instructions for hard-wiring it into your boat, car or truck.
I bought my first phone from ebay and had a bad experience getting it activated because of unpaid bill issues from the prior owner. I HAVE HAD THESE PHONES CHECKED AND CLEARED FOR ACTIVATION WITH GLOBALSTAR. No "issues" or excuses with these phones. I also bought a hard case kit from ebay: The case had holes drilled in it, the equipment was old and scratched, you couldn't even close the lid of the case with the phone in the docking station. The ones I have are in brand-new Pelican 1450 cases (the plain phones are in 1200 cases) and are secured with velcro....the case is and will remain waterproof!! You can toss the case into the water (provided the lid is closed!)
Activation from Globalstar costs $50, and unlimited voice and data is $39.99 per month. Globalstar service was very unreliable, they lost customers by the thousands. But even since last year, their service has improved and is almost full coverage now in terms of time. I have been very happy with mine, and now use it in my truck.
The "extreme docking station" car kit and phones in Pelican 1450 cases are $500 plus shipping. The plain phones in Pelican 1200 cases are $250.

. The service has gotten way better in the last year. I predict that bot phone and service prices are gonna go up sharply once people understand that they have restored their service......
