    Stripers and Makerel

Saturday morning three miles off Gloucester Harbor. Mackerel were running thick. Loaded up the live well and live lined some smaller ones for stripers.

This was an awesome day the water was millpond flat and looked Caribbean Green because of the pollen floating on top. First time out this season on the boat. I am a newbie and spent all Winter waiting for this - reading up and learning as much as possible.

Set out a couple of lines with mackerel and let them run. Fifteen minutes later the Torium started singing. Line was screaming off. 37 inch striper was landed after three good runs. What a fish! I was trembling I was so excited.

Last year I was skunked for stripers the whole season. Others on the boat caught them but they avoided my offerings. I caught plenty of blues and F'ing dogs but no bass. This trip made up for it all. I landed four bass two keepers and two just under's. My buddies were skunked...but were happy just catching the Mackerel.

    Awesome, awesome day!

As they say, sometimes it's quality, not quantity. Thanks for the report. It was a great read.
