Posting some intel on what I observed during my vacation. Wish I could say that I was catching them but all I have been doing is observing. Might be good info for someone looking to do some catching.
Anyway... Today the family was up in Provincetown enjoying the beach/town while I was wondering the dock. Talked with a FDNY member who was out "within a thousand yards of shore" catching a cooler full of very nice Stripers up to just under 40". He had some fluke in the cooler as well.
For those interested in Whales, absolutely the best trip on the Portugese Princess on Monday. We had a Humback literally next to the boat for a good half hour splashing, waving, rolling, and diving. We were out on Stellwagon Bank within sight of land and the Whales were right next to us as well as on the horizon. Great stuff for the family. According to the tour guide, it was a trip of a lifetime. She let us know that this was truly a once in a lifetime experience with the Whale so close for so long.
Finally, here in Eastham, I am looking out off the deck tonight and see a kid across the river who is catching fish. Within about five minutes he has two nice stripers released. I jump in the car and run over only to make a fruitless attempt with my Tony Acseta spoon. On the way tomorrow for some surface lures.
Good fishing all over. All I have to do now is learn how to catch some.
pick up these couple things for some succesful casting in the rivers down there. storm shad small ones, 1 oz atom white popper and a white bucktail 1/2 oz to 3/4. these are the only things i carry when i walk to rivers down the cape and up here near boston striper fishing they work everytime good luck.
Got a ton of pics from the whale show. Still on the camera though until I get home.
Went out today and picked up two poppers 1oz. each. Threy them and some white bucktails along with Bass Assasins for about two hours before I had to get home for a lobster feast. Tide was ripping but nothing biting. I think I was a little early for them. Rumor is that they like the beginning of the outgoing. That is where I'll be tomorrow.

MAN I WANTED TO TAKE YOU GUYS OUT BUT
So sorry I couldn't get the family out for a little ride and some fishing on Friday. My hunch was correct with the wind and knew some wierd stuff was about to come upon us. Here's a breif synopsis for a friend up here:
""Interesting to say the least. NW 10-15 30 miles east of Monomoy. Coming across the shoals; light SW w/ a snappy leftover NE swell.
Monomoy -> Rodgers Shoal SW 10-12. Massive rain squall between Rodgers and Bishop's which we blew through to find FAC conditions.
past Bishops; almost to Horseshoe and it exploded NW 20-25 w/ steep 3' seas out of nowhere.
Ducked in close to the shore to catch some lee; rounded the corner at Succonnesset and Vineyard Sound was W10 and calm.
Docked; cleaned fish and a NW squall 20-30 blew through 40 minutes later.
Talk about a confused wind and sea state! ""
I had a feeling, and a series of line storms came through and we would have been fine but not the time and place to take the family for a ride.
I can't thank you, Judy, and the children for the greatest Shoefly Pie's in the world ate some of the choclate one tonight with vanilla ice cream.
Next year lets plan on a nice family outiing and we will weave a bit of fishing in also.
Here's a picture of Martha's Vineyard ..We'll get you out there next season
We hit some nice storms not too far from Bourne on the way out. Thats what makes you guys good, knowing when to pull the plug. I sure would have hated for the kids to go out and have their first experince go sour.
Thanks for the boat tour Vin, above and beyond to say the least. Great Capt. and awesome boat. Kids (especially Kara) were thrilled.
