Awesome sword and great trip! We were on Rowdy Dow alongside you guys. Great yellowfin bite with some nice ones mixed in. Just curious, is there a size limit on makos?

And yes, as I was told, it was tastier than the piece I got from the 425 lb fish that Capt Bill Brown shared with me.

    Tonight it's Yellowfin.

Guys, that was a great trip with a great group. I had a lot of fun.

The Strad is no worse for the wear. Although John, I disagree that Anthony cleaned the chair that well. I was washing tuna scales off the bottom of it with hot water for 45 minutes yesterday.

It's that definition of "owners clean" that Vinny M, refers to.

All ribbing aside, you guys did a great job cleaning the boat while fishing and back at the dock.

I liked the waste management that was on going the entire trip. You guys kept taking empty drink and food containers to the trash and that it was nice to have places to put drinks and plates in the galley. I stayed that late that night to finish the initial cleaning since the boat was wet and it's easy to clean up while she was still wet. Yesterday I was only there for 3 hours getting her back to her standard of clean. And to top it off, I wasn't lying on my back cleaning under the gunnels. Most of that was cleaned prior to me getting to it.

And to boot, I did solve the mystery of the fresh water disappearing. It was that connection for the future connection for the water maker. There was well over 50 gallons of water left in the tank. Will thought it was dry, but it wasn't. the pump was off.

Now if another weather window would develop.

Well they mist have rubbed off my hands because I'm still finding them on me. I'll make sure to do a closer inspection of my work next time. Did the macerator fix itself?????

I'm just razing you on the chair. I'm sure there's still some tuna scales on it somewhere. They end up everywhere.

Plus I had the advantage of using hot water from the cockpit sink.

The macerator is toast. I'll rebuild the macerator pump since it's the same one used in the black water pump out. I'm switching out to a hard plumbed line with a ball valve. I'll epoxy a screen over the outlet that won't allow anything over 1/4" through and that will solve the problem once and for all.

    Live and learn.

Mike - from experience - use a high grade stainless screen and make it fine enough to stop rubber bands, plastic bag fragments and stray pieces of braid and leader. Its that stuff that binds around the macerator pump's chopper blade and seizes the pump. The scales go through fine!

Assuming your boat has standard Jabsco pumps; replace the dead one, rebuild the cooked one on a bench and have it ready for the next one that seizes!

    been there/done that

There's that Swordie you wanted, Mike! Congratz to you and the crew!

About the pump... is there an advantage to a macerator vs. a diapham type? I replaced a macerator for my fishbox with a diaphram pump, because some old salt advised me to do so. That thing will suck a golfball and spit it out the other end... although in hindsight it seems pretty slow. Just curious.

Chris, I was just about to reply to larry and I saw your post.

That box holds a lot of water and ice. Thinking it through, maybe a combination of 2 pumps would be best. One that could be carried in a rear cabinet and be run off of the AC system so I could drain the box from the top quickly by dropping a hose in while the small hatch is open along with the macerator to do the dirty work.

But the fact that I can have a macerator ready to go, is not a bad idea.

I'm not sure what's clogging the macerator this time. But I suspect it's a bone from a fin like the last time.

I did find out what's putting a little wear and tear on some of the carcass. The lower divider holder sticking out is the culprit. Either I need to leave the divider in or replace them with a half circle shape.

Still fine tuning the Strad. But that's boating.

Or make sure the fish box is bursting at the seems with fish and there will be no room for them to move around and rub in to the divider. Much better solution IMHO.

    Mike,
Funny you mention the marks and wear on the sword and one of the tunas. I was originaly thinking the chiller plate edges then i remembered the divider we removed so the sword would fit in fishbox whole, and could not remember what held the divider in and what it looked like. From the location size and shape of the cuts on the side of sword it sounds like you found the culprit.

Again i had a blast and can not wait for the next one.

BTW grilled sword last night for supper. It was stunning.
