    Storing Squid Bars

ok so i'm starting this thread since i accidentally hijacked another thread.....anyway so i had my first season under my belt and now it's my first off season for tuna fishing so here's my question.....what is the best way or correct way to store squid bars in the offseason and during the season? i just pulled all my bars out of their bags to hang up in the basement like 3 days ago and the lines were curled to some extent and the skirts on the squids curled somewhat too not to mention that the squid skirts are kinda sticking together a little. i don't know if i stored them wrong or if washing them off with freshwater after each trip was the right thing to do or what.....how do you take care of these things????

Hammer in a nail to something like a beam where you can hang them up. I re-rig all my stingers every season....35+ stingers....about 25 of them are glow

If you hang them..better give them a shot of pledge or silicone..if you bag store them give them a shot of silicone spray. Prior to redeployment for the next trip after storage quick wash and a dunk in the chum or elixir or choice prior to deployment...get' em' stinky..ya with me...

    The best restoration for Squid:

I have taken Old, Dirty, Wrinkled, Flat Squid or Skirts and place them in a five gallon bucket of Hot,Hot Tap Water use rubber gloves w/dish soap scrub with a cloth and rinse in Hot,Hot tap water use rubber gloves lay them out on a towel to dry. Stuff the flat ones with a paper towel. after they cool down they are like brand new.

As far as your lines you should rebuild your bars often if:
Lines are Curly, Line is Chaffed, Line is nicked, swivels are corroded, or just old.

fix them as a hobby or get one of the boys on SFC to rebuild them. Hang them and take stingers off so you don't find the dog or cat hanging by a #12 hook.

Great advice from the Fortuna boys...keep em' stinky...with the balance of the rest..it's like re-awakening a sleepin' bear...stinker' the better ..softer the better...hot water and stink...works!

    Great Advice..!!!! from Cappy Greg

I iron mine with light starch and fold them away with the linen for the winter.

Wise assing aside I rebuild mainlines each winter; wings only when necessary and if a squid is bloody, wrinkled, torn by teeth - even better. My best bars have many faded, mismatched, torn and generally mangled squids and they seem to work just fine.
