Ha, ha..... Mike, you know what I mean. Capt. Eric
Clearly a mixed bag on this topic, which is why I asked. Thanks to everyone for their input.
Btw, I wasn't necessarily talking about just submerging the stingers in filth on the boat just prior to trolling but was actually considering soaking them in the garage refrigerator for a few days pre-trip.
I'll post results...
My point is it's been done. Capt. Eric
If your going to do it, don't dunk and soak. It will really mung the squid up--you will end up throwing it away at some point. If you want to try the idea, take a tampoon, soak it with pogey oil or other and stick it up inside the stinger and affix with a rubber band.
The best thing will be if you don't catch a fish with it.
The worst will be if you do catch a fish with it.
Exactly!!!!
Col, Anyone can catch fish when the fish are hungry. The tricky part is getting the fish to feed when they aren't hungry. Sometime you need to piss them off, sometimes you use a chemical that triggers an involuntary feeding response, sometimes its the presentation of spread. There are so many things to try from live and dead stinger baits, WD-40, oil soaked tampons as MACON suggests, you can even apply maxwell's principles to your hook. The list goes on and on.
All I know is if you see or mark fish and they ain't hitt'n, you can troll for another 8 hours and maybe get a hit or you can try something different - maybe try something that everyone else hasn't thought of...
Zip tying a sponge inside the stinger is a pretty simple method that doesn't ruin the squid, just keep the love juice off the deck or you will be on your ass before you blink.
