    Still on 'em

The last week of October and first week of November I have gotten out 8 times in rather decent weather considering the horrific Sept. and early Oct. we had. Every trip has seen multiple hookups and fish to the boat, except for yesterday where we fought a rather large model bluefin for an hour before losing him to the props, our only love for the day which saw a red hot first 2 hours and the switch shut off around 9am for everyone except for a few live and dead bait fish taken from the rather small group of boats out for a very nice day on the water although very cold.

There are alot of larger model fish around right now, most of our fish now falling in the mid 60 inch and up class, with lots of 300-500 pounders showing a quick caudal fin or a brief glimpse of their backs from time to time. Each morning sees the entire southern edge of the bank and the deeper waters to the south loaded with fish, from the west edge all the way to the lanes out east, but the pattern has been an early bite followed by a slow pick until late in the afternoon, when they turn on again for those able to stay out in the shortened daylight.

Here are some pics from the past 2 weeks:

Someone needs to invent a double clip off of the spinning reels/rod so you can hook into a bucket harness. Then we can start talking about catching a giant on spinning gear regularly. My back cant take the 45 minute pounding from those waist belts when catching 150-200lb fish. Cant see ever catching a 400lb bluefin on spinning gear with a waist belt.

Great pics. Good to see the tuna are still here in good numbers for those of us who can't get out there.

As for using a harness with a spinning reel, you could use something like this: http://www.reelcolors.com/RODRINGS.html. In addition, Aftco makes a strap made to go around the rod that you can clip a harness to, and some custom rods are made with the harness lugs built in.

Well, once again, another useless idiot joins this site and provides no valuable input. Great....Whatever gets you off I guess.

    Nice work Dom. Great photos!

I use the aftco strap for attaching spinning rods to harnesses. works great. we caught alot of 75-80 inch fish eartier this year and most all were boated in 20-30 minutes using spin rods in the harness. Of course, we have the right spinning gear too, stellas and the top end rods.

I live bait fish with a spinning rod......yeah baby!
