Finally got out to the bank this year. Made bait (pogy) in the Harbor Wed night and departed 4AM Thurs with 4 deer hunters/pond fisherman and a kid who just turned 11.
We started on the East side of the middle with two drifted pogies and one on the kite. Few swings and misses at the drifters and then a big bite on the kite. 5 minutes in head shakes and pulled hook. Thing got quiet as the tide picked up and at 10 we moved to SWC. Our pogy supply was getting tight as the bass picked them off. We were down to one in the well and a pretty sick pogy on the kite. The 11 AM slack shut the bass down and then BOOM, we are on. We ran a clinic on playing a tuna, wiring and gaffing for 45 minutes while we chased this frisky fish around and successfully boated a 65" fish.
Called it a day and headed for Boston. Unfortunately, we had the tie bar shear between the rudders (apparently Albemarle thinks using hollow 1/8" wall stainless is a good idea here?) and we ran home steering with throttles only. No reverse either as it would spin rudders into props. Looks like my last trip until I make friends with a good fabricator.
My first try with a kite. I am hooked.
