SSTT Postponed until October 9th – 11th with the fishing days on Oct. 10th and 11th

FYI From Steve James:

Hello Fellow Fisherman:

The Stellwagen Bank weather forecast for this weekend looks very uncomfortable, especially for smaller boats. Showers are likely on Saturday and Sunday with SE winds forecasted to be 18 to 25 knots throughout the period. While it may be fishable on Saturday, wind driven rain doesn’t sound real nice (remember last Sunday?).

Approx. 30 miles east of Boston, Wednesday’s 1:00 PM forecast:
Saturday: SSE wind 18 to 20 kt. Showers likely. Seas 4 to 5 ft.

Saturday Night: SE wind 18 to 23 kt. Showers likely. Seas 4 to 5 ft.

Sunday: SE wind 21 to 25 kt. Showers likely. Seas around 6 ft.

With a dozen boats pre-registered for the event (only one over 40 feet) and additional signups based largely upon good weather conditions, it seems to makes sense to push the SSTT back one more week and hope for a reprieve in the high winds.

With that said, the new dates for the SSTT are October 9th – 11th with the fishing days on Oct. 10th and 11th. The Captain’s meeting will take place Friday, October 9th at 5:00 PM at the HaNabi Restaurant which is located on Rte 139 in Marshfield.

Best Regards,
Steven James

We may officially be out of recession, but apparently people are still being pretty conscious about the sh*tty economy...

Don't believe everything Ben Bernanke tells you. Fed continues to pump this scam market.

amarshall, it seems weird, but last years tourney there were only about 20 boats pre-registered. But by the end of the Captain's meeting the total was I think 67? A lot of guys wait until the last minute to enter based on the weather.

It might be on...

Updated email from Steve as of 6:35 tonight...

Hello Fellow Fisherman!

Timeout!!

I can’t believe I’m writing this email just five hours after the last one went out but learning to roll with the punches is what being a boater is all about...

This crazy weather just took an incredible turn for the better and we might be back on for this weekend. We’re too close to the end of the boating season to let a reasonable weekend slip by. Right this minute (5:30 PM Wednesday evening), they’re calling for:

30 Miles east of Boston –
Saturday: SE wind around 18 kt. Showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Seas around 4 ft.

Saturday Night: SE wind 14 to 17 kt decreasing to 11 to 14 kt after midnight. Showers likely. Patchy fog after 10pm. Seas 3 to 4 ft.

Sunday: S wind around 12 kt becoming SW in the afternoon. Showers likely. Seas around 3 ft.

With this forecast, I’d say there’s no problem getting a bunch of the smaller boats involved that wouldn’t have fished when the forecast called for 6 footers.

So here’s where we’re at, I’d like to reserve the ability to make the final call tomorrow evening. So for the time being, we’re back on but let me make the final, final call tomorrow evening about 5:00 PM via email.

And, if you think it’s frustrating trying to plan your weekend, you should try sitting in these shoes! Urgh!

Steven James
