Spreader Bar Maintenance
How often do you look to rerig your spreader bars? I worry when I do I am gonna ruin the damn things if I do but recognize it is a necessity. I am looking for when based on how much damage you need to see in the lines (whether that is different for teaser vs hook line) and also whether you do it on a timed basis based on the life span of Mono....thanks!

Crab mustard is good
Everyone has there own maintance schedule. But honestly it depends on use and storage. In the spring/early summer the blues and bass will tear them up and you could find yourself re pairing or re riging a bar in part or hole every time it is used. Some re rig after every fish. I personaly inspect it every time it comes out of the water and deturmine if it needs attention.
Now the line you need to be the most conserned with is the center line or main line of the bar from were it attaches to your mainline coming off your reel all the way back to the hook on the stinger. That is the only line that gets any presure and knicks and chaffs will cause you to loos fish. The wings do need to be repaired but can be used with minor damage to the mono.

Spreader bars
Always look at the bars when they go in the water and at the end of a days fishing. Also at the start of every season new mono, floats, lures etc. Look at you terminal hardware all the time. Always look over the bars if they are tired replace.

Stop staring at my Avatar.
"on the edge" said it well....only other advice I would give is to wrap some electrical tape around your snap swivel that connects to your hook bait before putting your bar in the water to troll. I have lost fish simply because you can open your snapswivel up with your own hand, when you are trying to wire the fish. Old line/thimbals/chafe gear/swivels/hooks should be replaced if you "think" it may need to be replaced....I never want to be "hopeing my connection will hold" once your tight...I want to be 100% certain it will. You won't have that sick/nervous feeling in your stomach when hes pumping 20ft down....
My .02 cents.
Only a few more months

Thanks for the responses,
I have been connecting the bars directly to a snap swivel on my main line (80lb mono doubled up with a spider hitch). Sounds like many of you attach a leader (crimped?) to the spreader to go to the mainline swivel...is this true? is fo what pd test? 200?
Thanks!
