    Spotter Plane

Going up flying tomorrow in a small prop plane with a guy I work with. We are heading from plymouth across CCB to stellawagon, around P-town, down to monomy and over through Nantucket sound. Hopefully will have some reports on tuna schools. He knows my motivation for going up with him is to scout for tuna and he is interested too to see what they look like. Any idea what the ideal altitude is for spotting tuna? I know there are some spotter plane guys on this forum.

I tried two weeks ago from 10,000 feet going to 37,000 feet but I didn't see any on the way over or back from Europe.

For general looking around, I use 1,500, but drop to 800-900 ft when working fish...

LOL, same here. I never see a damn thing flying out of Logan. Although given that it does not take long before tankers look like skiffs, I guess it should not be a surprise. Still look hard everytime!

Have fun up there. Be sure to let us know how many 60" to 72" fish are out there since they are going to be off limits this year.
