    Southern Jeffrey's Report ~ Nov 3rd Wed

<caution- this story does not end with a fish on the line or in the boat- stop reading if that's what you're looking for>

Fired-up Dads Dream for one last shot at Charlie

Docks are getting pulled all over in Maine but we found access at Pierce Island in Portsmouth. Arriving at 0 Dark Thirty- put truck in 4WD as launch has some ice and dock is skim-coated as well- it's 27 degrees and sunrise comes at 715 today

Steam out down the river in front of Ports Naval shipyard- radar- super dark- 3 lobster boats headed out on filling tide

Out past buoy 2KR and we've got enough light to bump it up to 3000 rpm- 20 knts~ through the Isles of Shoals~ out through Old Scantum- New Scantum- The Cove

Birds working off the stern of some gillnetters??? Birds everywhere.....not working on busting fish though~ My buddy Chris spots a pod of whales working together and we investigate to discover nothing of importance and very little bait nearby

Out to Jeffreys, The curl......ahhh, there's one nice fish off the bow......50 yards.....get your rod.....ahhhh, he's gone. Settle down and idle now....maybe some others will pop up.....nada

Set a course for Pidgeon Hill - another 5 miles SE......buzz over there......106 fow....that's quite a hump- marking tons of bait.......drop down some jigging rigs......alll small pollock

Spot porpoise.....and a few more bunches......funny how they can fool a hungry eye for tuna action......at least it gets your blood moving again

Run back across Scantum now....heading for home, aiming towards Isles of Shoals....swing to the southern edge.....and BAM......there.....busting fish everywhere....zoom in closer.....yes, its not dolphin or gannetts.....its tuna.......ok, we're on the scene now........and there's acres & acres of tinker mackerel...........the tuna had been shredding them up......and now they're FRIGGIN GONE!!!! Wait 30 minutes, 90-120 fow, not marking anything but bait.......toss all kinds of lures into the macks just for fun.......nobody pops back up again........

Heading for the barn at noon-

Don't know if I have another trip in me.....but its gotta be down your way to see the SEC of the bank......

Sorry my story didn't have a happier ending boys!

Seems like a good day. Better story than my day.

I drove to the office. Had customers flip out on me all day. Then I drove home to actually start doing productive work. I spotted no tuna, whales or dolphins.

At least you found the fish.

Sounds like my day... every day!

Dad's Dream... nice report. Love the disclamer at the top. It was definitely a nice day to be out there, if a little chilly. I've definitely fallen for the porpoise/dolphin surface action more times than I care to recount. Hope you get another shot this season.

The midwater/pair trawlers have been pounding Southern Jeffrey's and Ipswich Bay since it opened up to them last week, so not surprised you did not find much there!
