    South of the Vineyard 8/12

Planning to head past the hooter 10 miles or so south of the Vineyard Friday to check out the temp breaks in the hope of finding small BFT. I heard there were plenty in the 30" range last week. One boat picked up 9 or so. Not sure if they are still there?

If anyone else is heading that way and wants to share sightings please pm me.

Worked from the Gully west past Inside Fingers two days ago ... picked up a #80 mako on the troll, then when we got near the Claw the halfbeaks exploded with 2's and 3's of Whites all over them ... we ended up seeing 12-15 marlin all in the same area ... buddy near us got one SBFT while we were sharking ... but the skillies were thicker than I've seen since the 80's

    The Dump

Any one been out there lately or heard of anything going on? I hear a lot about small fish and marlin closer in but nothing about that area.

Nice report CaptAlex. I was hoping to hit the area Sun or Mon, but it's looking like the weather/wind might not agree.

Can someone help me out - I've got #'s for Cox's, Dump, Claw, Gully, etc etc, plugged in, but nothing for the Fingers. I believe it's E of the Claw, but also see "inside fingers" marked. Where do you target for the Fingers? Thanks.

The Fingers is between the Claw and the top of the Dump. It's the 25 fathom curve.
The Inside Fingers is a little further east.
Check out a Capt Seagulls chart. They have all these "hot spots" marked with Lat/Lon #s.
Best of luck out there. Sounds like a great white marlin bite and lots of sbft and mahis in the area.

Inside Fingers is 20 fathom curve due south of MV ... Fingers are 30 fathom curve right above the Dump ... been much slower down there, I'd stay inside ... don't worry about water temps (we found most marlin in 66) - find the halfbeaks

Alex, what are you doing for the whites? Pitching naked bally to them when they run up the spread?

Thanks, guys. That clears it up for me. Was hoping to make the run from Cuttyhunk this weekend (sun or mon), but looking like it will blow pretty good from the S-E. Hoping for another shot not too long from now. Sounds like it has been pretty good out there. Would love a shot at a white marlin, & maybe even more so at a 'hoo, but happy just to get out there.
