South Shore Fishing Report - Jones Inlet
The fluke fishing remains consistent in the bays and near Jones Inlet. The bays are producing more keepers over the ocean. If you are fishing the inlet, get into 30-70' of water either south or southwest of the inlet. If you are staying in the bays, the action is in Swift, Haunts & Goose Creeks as well as the State Channel and near the Big M bridge. Bait rigs and bucktail combos are providing success. We've also had reports of anglers live lining small snappers for some bigger fluke. To get more information and additional fishing reports, stop by our site. Tight lines! |

Welcome to SFC Causeway, and thanks for the report.
Have you heard any positive reports on stripers at the Wantagh bridges this season? We keep getting skunked, and don't see anybody else catching either. I think the construction is fouling things up. Either that or it's us. But we know that we can't be the problem right?

Quote:
The stripers were there when the weather was cooler but the slowing activity is typical this time of year due to the warmer climates. There are fish by the Wantagh Bridges on clam baits but until the cooler temperatures return, the action won't be as steady. Last month, we had several reports of good striped bass activity at the 2nd and 3rd Wantagh's as well as Haunts Creek to the west of the 2nd and 3rd bridges but at first light. It looks like its a timing thing to see the best action but again, when the dog days of summer leave us, you should see the action pick up. Let us know if you get out and how you did. |

Thanks for the reply.
I know we frequently hit the tides wrong because we all have to work for a living. Besides that, it's not always about the catching, so we go when we can. I guess if we want to have something to report we'll need to step up our game. |

Can't wait for retirement I bet? haha
If I could fish all the time, I would too. But like you said, we have work, family and other distractions taking us away from this sport. One of the reasons I love this sport/hobby is because its great to be out on the water doing something we enjoy. Good times, good company and hopefully good fishing... |
