We caught 15 small Bluefin South of Block last weekend. We did it in about 2 hours of trolling. (we were there shark fishing in the Thames River Shark Tournament)
Largest was 32". The one fish per boat limit is insane.
for fairway bouy. Is that the MOA bouy? Also the gulley not to sure about where either are . normally fish out of shinnecock. going monday to troll some up.
Saw you out there on Friday. We were only able to score some Mahi before we had to head for the barn. Two of my "friends" had to do the gunnel shuffle and so we had to end our day early.
You must have been into the Tuna at some point, so show us some pics...... a lot of boats out there on Friday.....

It's all good
We had a great time but didn't take any pics for you pic lovers.
We had a tentative canyon charter that due to a change in plans had to be turned into a one day trip.
The charter had five on board so we had a discussion as to best place. The Bank would mean we may get one or two but not everyone in the boat would be expected to hook up. Ditto for Chatham with the spotty bite being reported. The main theme of this charter was how to set trolling spreads, location and maximize everyone's enjoyment. With a hot bite being reported SE of the Block we re-grouped and formed a plan to head that way looking for multiple hookups on school tuna and opportunistically see if we could raise other species.
We arrived at the Mud Hole first and plenty of sign but no bite seen. Had a lobster guy try to cut off our gear and found that a Carlson Bird is tougher than a lobster boat
Went south then East and got a call fom a buddy of mine since cub scouts. Plenty of life so we headed that way. We started catching school bluefin then bonito and false albacore and skippy. Our day was not about big fish but about big fun and trolling spreads. We return to home abut 2000 from 0600 departure. The afternoon bite was happening and the morning bite seemed very slow that day.
Our lures of choice were Legend Lures Unicorn and Nemi's as they also mimic the sandeels that were so abundant. I think you could also get there and blind fly cast and have a ball
All in all when we were in the fleet the guys in other vessels were great. It's a fun fishery and light tackle will do just fine.
Our guys brought some of the finest calzone's the north end ever produced.
Have fun out there and catchemup.
Fin - sorry to hear your guys did the gunnel shuffel. We left the fleet and found the life which is normally the case. The fleet was great but I suspect the bite just fades away when a fleet is present. But you know no one cut anyone off, radio talk was quite and gentlemanly
Fisherpooch - just what Scratch said pick up an Cappy Seagulls charts they are all marked there and there is no secret place you just hunt em up
Guys this is a great place to fish especially if your a bit limited in size. BI is a par four, light tackle will keep it fun, inexpensive lures and a good crew will keep it real, you have cell coverage most of the time.
