    Smelting???

    IM planning a run up to Maine this week to try some smelt fishing so I can cross that off my "Bucket List" Does anyone have any suggestions where to go? Gear?

    If you go to the state of maine website it will list all the smelt camps in maine with phone numbers etc. High out going tides sometimes produce well. Bring small sabikis and weight with tiny jig rods and small sweedish pimples or 2oz lead for the ends and bait the the sabikis with the small amounts of the provided bloodworms. Seams to always outfish the house lines. Bring an ass cushion for the shack and out course plenty of adult beverages. Good luck!

    If you're planning on fishing the Kennebec,definitely call ahead and make sure their shacks are on the ice. I was just down in Gardiner this week, all the shacks were up on shore because of the flooding and massive ice jam we have in the Augusta area.
