Smelt fishing camps in Maine?
Hello everyone, i have been up to James Eddy smelt camps twice in the past 2 wks with little luck. Any advice on tides or another place that might be better, Also should i bring my own gear such as a sabiki. The gear they supply is horrible. I know the night catch is better but is it possible during the day?

It's that Jim's smelt camps in Bowdiinham? I have done well there at night. Use sabiki rigs only three hooks cut them in half. And about two ounces of weight. All this on a small jig stick with a spinning reel. I've done very well there. Ask Zeke how they have been hitting.
Lately I have heard the tides are too big.

I’m going up to James Eddy this Thursday 4pm to 10pm… This is going to be my first smelt trip, no expectations, maybe just catch a good buzz.
I’ll update here when we get back from our mini-vacation on Monday.

Got to go to Worthings. I haven't been in a few years but used to go a lot while in College. I fished a few diffrent spots but every time I did an overnight tide at Worthings we absolutely killed'em, not to mention we had a blast everytime. I will never forget the drunk Mainers in the shack next to us, must have heard "you caught your boot bud" a thousand times, followed by "go to the F'in car, you are a being a **** sucker". Epic Mainers at there best, boy do I miss smelt fishing Maine style!

Hope that helps, slay'em! Just don't hook your boot

We fished from 4pm to 10pm Thursday night. The four of us caught 98 total smelt.
About ½ of what we caught was taken in the last 90 minutes. Glow in the dark Sabiki rigs tipped with a little sea worm was the way to go. Also it was an incoming tide, if that matters?
Only about 4” of ice, it’s not going to last at this rate!
