So who here has the smallest boat that they hunt for Tuna Offshore.(not a kayak) I'm in the market for a smaller center console $25k-$30k, 20 foot or less that I can use for next season. Anybody have any suggestions...
Post Some Pics of your 20 Foot Or Less Tuna Slayer.....
Out of Scituate (I am in the North River), I personally wouldn't feel comfortable on anything <23'. Too many variables can pop up along that steam through CC Bay to get out there and back (never mind the sporty conditions that can arise if you want to fish beyond Race Point).
Brother in laws boat the 23' coastal, not mine lol, but I bought all the tuna gear so i pretty much am half owner lol. I would feel safe in a 20 foot as long as I had trust in the motor. That's why im looking for new. This will mainly be a striper boat off of minot light, 4th cliff and all that when my brother in law has to work but I want the option on a flat calm day to roar out to the SW corner or if those large schools of small fish show up in the bay again be able to reach them. I've seen plenty of smaller craft out on the corner just wanted to get an idea of what people have taken out there.
"We were out in my brother in law's boat (23 Wellcraft Coastal) on the SWC and it got rough, real rough so we ran into race point in case it got worse and to wait it out. While we were in there pulling some stripers to the boat, This tiny Center Console drives by us with 4 130's heading to the SWC from race point. I thought they were crazy. The name of the boat suited the style lol "DILLIGAF", anybody know this guy or if he's on here. and for all you that don't know what DILLIGAF means pm me lol
I know not the smallest on here but we have the range to go up to 50 miles from the ramp if need be to find the fish (never been more than 35) with gas left over for trolling and a 10% safety margin figured in. Sure I'd love to go bigger (who wouldn't) but this gets the job done on a budget.
Another thing I'd like to say: After installing the radar this year, I would never ever leave the dock without it. The most essential piece of equipment on any boat IMO.
