The skis im taking out to Tahoe next week are 130 underfoot....so pumped.

easily the widest thing I've ever skied on as all my race skis are about 75.

That's ridiculous. What model? I'm curious...Or share a bit about the skis if you don't mind...camber, rocker, sidecut, etc.

    V-cool, v-cool.....

I have a pair of skis I got several yrs ago.....lets see, think they're Solomon Pilot Scramblers, can't give you the 3 dimensions....but they were the step BEFORE the sick skis you're already on......

Def good for a NE powder day....and they're good in loose stuff....although I find myself whacking the tips in the bumps~ which is probably a style thing......

This is what I pull out and get some hoots & hollers wherever I go.......(see link at bottom)

I grew up skiing in the 70's, so parallel skiing was THE thing to master (and for some of us older guys) we still prefer that style.......

Well, I got the fix for that! Monoski baby!

Smugglers Notch got pissed off at me (2 yrs ago) (its mostly a family mountain, right?)....they tried to make me get a leash for this thing....and the MADE ME load onto the lift like a snowboarder~ it has ski bindings, with dual brakes.....

Mine is a 187 Snowshark Monoski~ and its fitted with demo bindings, so my buds can click in to try it out for a few runs....but only like 2 guys have tried it....

The skis Im taking out are K2's. Not positive of the exact model as i just picked em up from my friend tonight (so glad they fit my boot, didn't feel like re-drilling em) He told me they're 130 underfoot. They do have some rocker in em, noticed that strapping them up. they're 189's, same length as my GS skis so they should be pretty freaking sawweeettt.

Man - Ski tech sure has changed. Shaped Skis were just starting to show up when I was teaching... Does anyone remember Slalom skis over 200cm? My favorite pair was a pair of K2 KVCs - 201cm - My GS Skis were 212...

Rich, good stuff man! I've seen a few guys shredding on those and it seems cool. Not something I would do (I'd probably suck at it) but it's for sure something different. And a leash for something with brakes...? I wonder about some people

gmoney - those may be the Pontoons - 160/130/120 and they come in a 189. I've heard nothing but good things about them...on soft snow of course. They sounds like siiick skis. I'm sure you'll have a great time on them.

Those things are monsters! My slalom skis are 168s. I'm only 5'6" but still...

The old videos of races crack me up. Things were so different! I can't imagine that by the time I have kids things will probably have made another radical change.

yeah things have changed, my slalom skis are 165's (which is now pretty much the standard in the mens fields in fis and ussa)
most guys are on a gs ski (27m raius) from 185 to 195, SG(33m) skis are hangin in at anywhere from 205 to 213, with DH(45m) boards being 210-216.
It is pretty crazy to think that not too long ago skis were so much different, It has done great things to the sport and i think that it will only continue to evolve.

    Tahoe last week

Just got back from skiing Tahoe last week. Conditions were perfect. Gotta recommend Mt. Rose. Not too far south of Reno and they have a 2fer on Tuesdays. Also, they give the senior discount to over 50's. This mountain has a rack of steep chutes, all gated. Worth the drive from anywhere around the lake!
