First off, CONGRATULATIONS! She's beautiful. Does she have a name?

As for Chatham Harbor, you can get a sportie in and out of the harbor. In fact, the Chatham Bars Inn has a 50-something Viking (Starfish) moored near the Chatham fish pier. But it's tricky. Someday's, it's downright unruly. I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if your unfamiliar with the harbor. And I don't recommend going beyond the fish pier as the water gets quite thin at low tide. So, forget Ryders Cove. You'll likely regret it. There's plenty of other harbors to choose from with deepwater access.

And the bars shift, sometimes a lot. Just a few years ago, you had to run North in some skinny water between the breakers and Nauset Beach. And the cut was marked with a stick! LOL That was fun.

Here's what the banks look like from Great S Channel (between Nantucket Shoal and Georges) up to Stellwagen

And here's the Regal Sword. It's a wreck and hardly a secret. But you'll find fish up and down these banks, many times just a stones throw from the beach.

I'll be the first to "volunteer" to crew and show you around.

Thanks for the compliments on the boat. As far as the name goes, she's called "Stradivarius". A finely tuned wooden stringed instrument that will make fine music.

The only difference between her and the smaller versions that people play in concerts is our strings have hooks attached to them.

Chumtini, That chart was really helpful.

I greatly appreciate all of the info that's been flowing in both on the board and in the forms of PM's and phone calls. I even received a voice mail from a past acquaintance last night that apparently has stuff to offer. It seems that I now need to set aside some time to meet with some folks and perhaps attend a seminar or two.

I suspect that I'll be networking and fishing with some new folks this season since it's so difficult to get a consistant crew on the week days.

Something tells me it’s going to be a short winter.

Actually the boat is going to be docked in Newport. It seems to me that it may not be out of the question to fish from that location. I'm sure I can pick up transient dockage from time to time if i want to move her further down the cape. It doesn't seem like its too long of a run to get her through the canal either.

Considering the distance for you to go to Chatham or Stellwagen you might want to consider the edge for bluefin early season. A few years back one of the better charter guys was trfolling up 150-200 lb fish in Block Canyon in June. We had a nice fish in Oceanographer June 5th a few years ago. I believe the majority of the fish move along the edge going north. Your boat has the range and speed to do some serious prospecting out there and maybe land the first giant of the season.

Fortunate One - I didn't realize your build was going on locally until I saw this thread. Congratulations, she is gorgeous. Where is she being built? I work in the Newport area.

I keep my boat at NEB in Portsmouth, RI and fish offshore and the canyons as much as Mother Nature allows. Buddy boats are always welcome. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I would be glad to help you get her dialed in. It is a long winter.....
