Shark Chum
Does anyone know of any spots north of Boston to pick up shark chum? Any spots in Gloucester? Trying to avoid the ride to the south shore.

Simms freezing in Rowley.

Got fish
My advise is don't go to Simm's unless you have no other options. Their chum is always yellow and has no oil. My recommendation would be to call channel fish company in East Boston. There is a guy there who makes chum, you usually have your choice of bluefish, mackerel or herring and if I recall their pricing is cheaper or in-line with Simm's. My second recommendation would be to call Crossroads in Salisbury, they usually make some fresh chum, call and ask.
Now if you want to go to Gloucester head over to Cape Seafood's, buy a tote of fresh herring, grind it up and freeze it in 2 gallon plastic bags. Then take the chum bags out of the freezer as you need it. I do it this way as I use the same chum for sharking and mackerel fishing.

I'll second Crossroads...makes it themselves and it's nice oily stuff, you pay a little more but it's worth every penny.

Bluefin thanks for the info. I'll try the place in east Boston next time that would be very convenient. I went to sims I guess I'll find out how it is tomorrow. Place was a little sketchy.
As for South shore I have had good luck at belsons.
See you out there.

What do you guys feel works better - herring or mackerel chum? I have only been sharking three times, but the first two times I had chum that had actual fish chunks in it - looked more like mackerel. The third time, it was this gray matter that looked like ground up cardboard. The bucket had an "H" on it, so I assume it was herring. Whatever it was, it did not work as well as the bits of fish I had the first two times.
