Senator Kerry GREEN or Blue fin

If you are a Mass. based fishermen/resident you likely noticed that Senator Kerry did not sign the Congressional letter against the CITES listing for Bluefin Tuna, while many other Mass. Congressmen and Senator Scott Brown did. We are concerned about Senator Kerry's position and we have not given up on him. Next week we (American Bluefin Tuna Association) will be talking with him again. At this point fishermen need to e-mail him and tell him how much the fishery means to them. Keep the notes to him civil and to the point. He is our Senator and American fishermen need his help. American Fishermen did not create this problem and have always followed the quotas and fished more conservatively than the rest of the world. See the ABTA web site www.theABTA.com under "current actions" for information that writers would include in their e-mails to him, especially the ANTI CITES letters from any of the local state governments.

Send E-mails to his "legislative director" john_phillips@kerry.senate.gov and ask him to please make the Senator aware of your concern. E-mails that arrive Today, Monday and Tuesday will have the greatest effect.

GO FOR IT !!!! We need Senator Kerry on our side

    Form e-mail

I just sent my e-mail, and here is the text I used. It is by no means perfect, but I'm puttting it out there with the hope that it might help guys take the time to send a quick e-mail.

    "Dear Senator Kerry,

I am a resident of Scituate, MA and I am writing to urge you to sign the congressional letter opposing a CITES listing for Bluefin Tuna. I am a recreational fishermen who, along with the vast majority of fishermen here in the Western Atlantic, have religiously adhered to guidelines and laws pertaining to the sustenance of the Bluefin Tuna fishery. We should not be persecuted for the misdeeds and violations of our counterparts in the Eastern Atlantic, and I beseech you to assist your lawful constituents in this matter.

    Sincerely,

A Devout Republican, You ****-Knobber (Just kidding on the name)"
