The Sea Ray from Marina Bay

Headed out yesterday morning before dawn and got to the BE Bouy at sunrise. No signs of life but started to troll across the bank anyway and then worked our way south along the eastern edge.

Caught up to the fleet on the SEC by mid morning and got promptly heckled on the radio for having to choose between rod holders or grill holders. Point is, it was really dead and the radio banter was in full effect.

Got off the troll and went cod and shark fishing in a couple spots. No sharks but plenty of cod and haddock. As we drifted over the rocky bottom east of Mid-Bank a Humpback put on an arial display for the ages. Just as we were about to pull the plug and head in, all hell broke loose a mile off our stern.

What I thought and hoped was a mid-day Stellwagen tuna blitz... a gazillion birds working and big splashes on the surface... turned out to be a HUGE pod of white sided dolphins. They were crashing bait, moving up wind in the growing SSW. Tried trolling behind, alongside and in front of the dolphin pod in hopes that tuna would be with them. Alas, nothing even sniffed our bars. Did get some great video though, which I'll try to post as soon as it gets edited.

Not a bad day all told except for the lousy tuna bite... Better luck next week.
