scup as tuna bait

Anybody every try/have any luck using live scup for bluefin tuna? Tried Saturday but no luck...but had no luck on pogies that day either. On a related string, someone mentioned that they thought scup were "a gamefish" and therefore illegal to use as bait. Seems crazy. any truth in that?

size matters. Keep it legal and you can feed scup to anything your imagination believes will eat them.

i know of a guy that live lined scup successfully for the tuna in my marina, but like was mentioned they need to be of legal retention size.

Well i can tell you for sure they work.I got 4 sellable fish this year on scup alone.I have used pogies and scup every trip and scup have outfished them everytime.It has not seemed to matter the size at all .

Our first fish of the year(76 inches) came on a scup. Any time we're down the cape we always grab a dozen for our pen(they live forever). I don't love them as kite baits, but I won't hesitate to leash one up to a balloon!
