SaltyDog Joined The Party At West Atlantis

Left Falmouth Harbor at 1230am to make the first light bite. Arrived at West Atlantis after a smooth starry ride at 430am and it was still pitch black---forgot how sunrise is getting later...

Lines in at 69 degrees in 600ft west of WA and our first quadruple knockdown resulted in 20-40lb YFT in the box. Worked our way south and another pile up put more YFT in the box. Called in a few buddy boats to the spot and then made a bad call. Decided to work the eastern edge of the eddy where it was pulling a warm water finger from another eddy south of Atlantis. Great break 76-71. Spent 3 hrs in beautiful 2500 feet water that had NOTHING in it.

Pulled all 10 lines and headed back to original spot--1000-1500 feet of water west of WA. Found our own spot with slicks and baitfish and then at noon the place went off. YFT exploding on every rod. Called in a buddy boat and next thing you know the fleet arrived. And it then went off for everyone...

...JellyBean and his buddies were there and they made it count. BigEye, Marlin, Wahoo. Everyone was banging up on all species in a rare noon bite.

We had the marlin/bigeye spread out but could only pull in YFT---cant complain but hearing the other boats catches on the radio was killing us. We wanted an Eyeball...

Finally pulled the plug at 2p and hit the high flyers in the shipping lanes for mahi. 77 degrees and loaded. I jumped in and spearfished my first bull mahi. Amazingly, once I jumped in the water with the speargun the mahi came right up to me, curious, and only a few feet away. Needless to say, there will be no more need to bait/chum nonsense, trolling mahi, or casting 10 different tiny lures to them. With a speargun and a curious fish, it truly is shooting fish in a barrel...

Overall, 10 YFT in the box and Mahi. The EyeBall still eludes us...congrats to the guys that got them. Going to sit back and wait as that new water from Hydro works its way East with fresh blood and maybe the late summer wahoo bite will turn on with it...

JellyBean was very active on the radio all day Sunday and night. Sounded like they had a decent trip.
