I'm reporting all of this as "fishy". Prepare to be re-educated.

i am no way putting down commercial fishermen i am just curious how many of you make giant fishing your livelihood. By this i mean you have no other job but commercial fishing. I know that there are plenty of you that stick fish and bottom fish on top of giant fishing, but i assume you are out fishing everyday and don't have much time to debate online. but how many commercial guys are on this website make an honest living killing and selling giants in todays day and age. What is the difference from commercial fishing from a sporty and enjoying the small bluefin fishery and taking a giant to the truck when you get one?

    I'd bet 1-2 tops.

I know the guys across the dock from me certainly do it for a living.

I don't see it as Rec vs Commercial whatsoever. I see it as what's in the best interest of the fish so we can all enjoy or profit from this fishery for a long long time. Maybe I am an idealist and I stand alone.

But actually the rec guys have changed my mind today. Hammer them all. There are tons of fish out there and they'll always be there. Don't worry about it. It's fine.

Charter guys who hammer the small fish might want to think what they'll be chartering for in 5 years. Just going to pray the small fish are still there? Wasn't all that long ago they weren't there. You'll be back dragging umbrella rigs for bluefish and bass.

Boy do i hear that Thanks jim,!!!! i have no trouble with someone posting their feelings but i do have trouble with someone who has one or two post's and just dumps on someones post. that my friends is just downright RUDE !!! then for others to jump in and slam a guy for asking a question is Ignorant !!!! Start your own thread and express your feelings !!!!!!

All this BS is just playing into the hands of those Wackos who WILL stop you from Fishing. Not if, but WHEN !!. If you don't agree with someones views STFU !!! go make your own post. There are a lot of sites out there that will welcome you with open arms. When all these Comm. VS Rec. clowns are doing whatever they do all winter i hear no one complaining about the price of Shrimp. Now theres a way to earn your keep. Try working the deck in 20 degree weather with the spray freezing on your grundens in 5 to 8 ft seas for 12 hours or more.

    Ok my RANT is over.

Turbocc good question, I am a retired commercial fisherman. Tuna, groundfish etc. No one i know of makes his living from just giant fishing. It is just another way to feed the family along with whatever other fisheries your in. It is not just a job, it's a way of living. An honest way.

If you read my post i said i understand that there are guys that fish for multiple species and make a living. I guess i wasn't to clear. How many people make a living off of just giant fishing alone?

Ive been a read only member for quite some time to this site, I never took the time to introduce myself i apologize, and i just thought I would start responding. My name is Nick Hanney I fish out of Falmouth MA when I am not working. Heavy Hitter who are you, or r you just going to hide behind your screen name?
