    Rubber blues

We were pounding the pavement about 7 miles east of the Northern Notch today. BFT were busting bait everywhere, the shearwaters were on the prowl and we were on the troll with bars and shankas. I had position on multiple BIG schools of fish and could not induce a hit for the life of me. At one point as I was teasing the long bar right in the middle of a pod, two fish jumped right through the middle of our spread and I swear I caught them giving me the finger just before they submerged again.

I know live bait has been the ticket recently, but is anyone having luck on the troll? These fish could not have been less interested in what I had to offer them and last week was more of the same (at least for me).

Tolerable and better than the NOAA forecast. The wind picked up out of the NE later in the day, but basically a perfect day for trolling (adding to my frustration).

Same thing for us yesterday. We had Pogies on the kite and on floats. We had Tuna busting within 10 feet of the baits but they didn't even look at them. We trolled Shanka's and X-raps for 4 hours and got nothing but fish busting in the spread. Very frustrating. So far this year I have made 12 trips and only 1 fish to show for it. This year sucks so far. It would'nt be so bad if I wasn't seeing so many fish!!!!

Has anyone tried trolling faster than normal? Just an idea...the fish I have been on have acted the same way not even looking twice at our baits or yes giving us the finger too Maybe trolling at 7 or 8 nots may entice them or maybe not. Stranger things have happened......

I was tossing live pogies in to the mix of tuna on Saturday and not hooking up. Fluouro leaders you name it.

They are some some small ass sand eels.

    Guys,

Good therapy for me to read this. I was about to take up golf. Two trips for me this year. Found the fish easily enough but could not get them to eat. Bally's, bars, RonZ, plugs, faster (6 knots), slower (2 knots), normal (4 knots), moved the spread in, moved it back, then way back... nothing.

The only two things I can think of that I have not tried, Run and gun casting and live baits.... They are next.

When I was out last Monday sharking, they wer busting all around us for hours. A couple times I would mark bait and catch a glimpse of the bait they were feeding on. Very small 4-5 inch mackeral. That might be the reason that they are not up for long. Those little buggers are fast. That may also be the reason why the troll guys are striking out and the guys pitching pogies into the schools are too. Remember, elephants eat peanuts.

We had lots of hook ups with tuna bombs "bone and bubble gum", the only problem was the bass and blues love em to so don't blind cast or you will end up with cigars for lures take your shots and it will be tuna time, forgot to mention Chatham bait and tackle give the honest fish low down
