Rivers End Tackle report Old Saybrook 4-24
FISHING REPORT --- April 22, 2011
STRIPED BASS --- We got a few reports back from anglers trying the lower River this week with meager results. The flooding was bad earlier this week but it's subsiding steadily now. The forecast for the week ahead is for more rainy days than not. I think it's time to give it a try and not wait for a good report. We're at the last week in April, if the weather isn't blowing or raining heavy the fishing condition aren't going too improve with age. Just go for it.The bass entering the coves and smaller rivers off the Connecticut in search of herring have been on the increase. We also had a couple of very good reports of schoolies at the Millstone Power Plant. The assumption is that these are migrating bass.
The mouth of the Housatonic continues to be good to very good for casters and fly fishers. Reports from the beaches of RI and NY have been off to a slow start.
FLOUNDER --- Last years Spring run was the slowest one we've seen until this years. We haven't heard of a flounder caught last week. I'm sure someone caught one but we've as of yet have heard from the lucky angler.
BLACKFISH --- Not too many ventured out in last weeks weather. The pattern the last few years has been that the blacks turn on a couple of days before the Spring season ends. Here too we haven't had a first hand report.
TIDE TABLES and TRI STATE FISHING REGULATIONS --- we're working on them.
