Rivers End Tackle report Old Saybrook 4-2
FISHING REPORT --- April 1, 2011
COD --- We haven't seen a Spring Run like this in years. Cod of mixed sizes are in the mouth of the Connecticut River following the migrating herring and trying to evade the seals. Best catches have been made on fresh or steamed clams. Forget the traditional diamond jigs the best artificial has been 5" round Slug-go in pink clam or electric mussel color. Both tides have been good with the ebb being favored. By the way do you know what day today is?
STRIPED BASS --- Now for the real report, it's not so exciting. It's April and the Winter over fish are moving around. Reports have been scant this week with few anglers venturing out on below freezing nights. We have had some reports of holdover bass moving down the Housatonic. The Thames has been silent but this weeks rains should generally move some bass around. If you're inclined to be on the cutting edge next week will be worth a shot in some of the tributaries of the Connecticut, Thames and Niantic Rivers.
Herring and ospreys have been seen this week around all the local rivers.
WINTER FLOUNDER --- Today is opening day.
