Rivers End Tackle, Old Saybrook 7-8
STRIPED BASS --- We're in Summer mode now with most of the action after lights out. Hatchetts has had some action both drifting bait and some action on the surface. Some action trolling at Six Mile as well. Now's the time to break out the tube and worm if you just gotta fish during the day.
There's a lot of sandeels along the shoreline and even out deeper. There's been some schoolies in the Harkness/Ocean Beach area.
There's a scant population of bunker at the mouth of the River.
BLUEFISH --- The choppers have taken residence at the Race and Plum Gut with sizes running in the medium bracket. Locally they've been at Hatchetts, Six Mile, Southwest and a few jumbos at the mouth of the Connecticut River.
FLUKE --- It's no news the Long Sand Shoal has shorts. Everyone complains but keeps going back to the same spot. The ratio of keepers is better at the mouth of the Connecticut River. Soundview has been on the slow side while the depths off Black Point has produced some nice sizes you have to settle for a hit an hour at best.
Fishers Island has a mix of sizes and probably the best spot to catch a NY limit. RI shore has also had good reports.
PORGIES ---Good action on most local reefs with some good sized fish. Hatchetts, Cranes, Bartletts and the Brothers are worthwhile .
BLACKFISH --- Season started last week but no one is talking.
BLUE CRABS --- We started out early with some good local reports but they've been dwindling lately. The Oyster River is still good and reports from the New Haven area are very good but we're not hearing from local crabbers. Drop us an email and let us know how you're doing.
