FISHING REPORT ---- April 8, 2011
A word of thanks to everyone who helped out with flipping dogs and parking cars at Surf Day. To everyone who attended thanks for coming, it's really a lot of fun for us even though the crew looks like a panic stricken school of bunker running amok.
To those of you who fell for our April Fools cod report, our Friday fishing report and April 1st won't coincide for quite a few years so you're safe for a while.
STRIPED BASS --- Trying to get information on the early striper run has been like reading tea leaves. We've put together the few reports we got in and threw everything into the mix and have come up with our seat of the pants analysis. The Thames has had a slower than normal Winter with some good to very good reports coming in the last couple of weeks. The bass reports we have got indicate that the bass are concentrated and moving daily or should I say nightly. The Thames Winter and early Spring striper fishing has evolved into a very technical fishery. Not only do they have to be located but then they have to be turned on.
The reports from the Housatonic River have been more encouraging. The upper reaches have been good with the lower stretch about to turn on, but nothing much yet. The Lower Connecticut River has bass in the tributaries coming into the main body of the River. Hamburg Cove is not up to speed with either bass or perch. By next weeks report we should have heard of the first bass in the main body of the River.
WINTER FLOUNDER --- The season has been open for a week now and we still haven't had a first hand report yet.
