FISHING REPORT ---- October 1, 2010
This weeks report is the lite edition, I was away at Montauk instead of gathering local information.
STRIPED BASS --- Its October and its certainly a change in the weather today. This weeks southerly winds have been kind to surfcasters who saw an uptick in stripers along the beaches from Westbrook to Westerly. They're not cows but its an improvement. We've heard of bass in the Race this week when weather permitted.
Montauk had surface action mostly on the north side of the lighthouse for both boats and surfcasters. Mullet and bay anchovies are the primary baits. The Fall Run has started there with most of the regulars seeing a downturn from previous years.
Watch Hill had a good pick of schoolies in the white water close to the rocks yesterday for bucktailers. Spend more time reading the water instead of the birds.

BLUEFISH --- Shorecasters in the Connecticut River did well the week with good sized blues going for bait. Surfcasters along the Westbrook to Waterford shore are also getting some blues up to the teen size mixed in with their bass.

PORGIES --- Closed except for party boats

BLACKFISH --- Opens today but I don't think anyone will try. We're having our Blackfish Contest again this year and will be selling green crabs in bulk.

FALSE ALBACORE ---- Montauk was good this week and the south side of Fishers had some schools. We haven't heard of them in any large concentrations other than Montauk nor have we seen the bay anchovies anywhere else.

SNAPPER BLUES --- They were around last weekend in good numbers, after this storm it's any ones guess.

BLUE CRABS ---- Last weeks prediction of their departure was premature. Crabs were being scraped off the pilings this morning.
