FISHING REPORT --- September 9, 2011
STRIPED BASS --- The night bite at the Race has turned on this week for drifters using bucktails or eels. It's been called the best bite there this year. Daytime has some bass but it's difficult to get through the blues. Plum Gut has similar action of a lesser level for drifters. There's still some action for casters on the sides of the Gut.
Watch Hill has turned on for surf and boat fishing. Mostly schoolies there with mullet and other baits near shore. The Breachways and adjacent rocks have given up a few larger bass.
Schoolies and a few jumbos have been coming off the Waterford Shore.
Bunker is now scarce throughout the Sound. We're trying to get some fresh bunker for the weekend and have to send to Delaware Bay.
BLUEFISH --- It's a different ball game out there for the contest. The mouth of the Connecticut has had some blues for chunkers during the flooding but it's not pretty. There's still a lot of dirty, debris filled water coming down. Southwest and Six Mile Reefs have some medium sized blues. The smaller reefs such as Cranes have fewer but larger fish. The reefs and shoreline near the mouth of the Thames have some nice sizes also. The Race and Plum Gut are loaded with blues but they tend to be smaller and most of those waters are out of the contest area.
The WICC Bluefish Contest is scheduled for September 10 and 11. We'll be open at 3am Saturday and throughout the next night to weigh blues.
FLUKE --- The season is closed in CT but still open in NY and RI. The doormats are rounding Montauk.
Final Contest Standings, the winners are:
1st --- 12.05# Jim Choinese
2nd ---11.30# Scott Pederson
3rd --- 11.00# Zeb Edwards
PORGIES --- They've turned back on hot and heavy after the storm. Good reports from Hatchetts and Bartletts Reefs and I'm sure the less popular reefs are doing just as well.
BLACKFISH --- Season is closed in CT and NY until October 1st but open in RI now. We're working on putting in a good selection of blackfish jigs this fall.
BLUE CRABS --- We're getting some decent reports from the Oyster River.
BONITO, FALSE ALBACORE --- There were albies off Montauk on Wednesday. Some were also spotted off Watch Hill on Monday. What happened to the bonito?

BONEFISH --- No they're not running in Long Island Sound, but we're putting together a trip to Acklins
Island in the Bahamas for February 2012. Call us or link here for more details.
