FISHING REPORT --- September 30, 2011
NEW HOURS
Sat --- 5am-5pm
Sun -- 5am-4pm
Mon-Fri -- 6am - 6pm
STRIPED BASS --- After we sent out last weeks reports, the fishing went south. Maybe we'll have a less enthusiastic report today and the opposite will take hold. The Race is still doing well but not hot.
Some bass are on Long Sand Shoal with porgies being the preferred daytime bait and eels at night, don't just stick to the east end. There's been schoolies at the mouth of the Connecticut River for both shore and boat anglers.
The Fall Run along the RI shore has been erratic, when the winds blow onshore it's been good. Watch Hill has seen some blitzes this past week. Some good reports from Block.
BLUEFISH --- Chunkers from shore at the mouth of the Connecticut River are getting some nice sized blues, that seems to be pretty consistent. Although we don't have any first hand reports, it's a good bet you can plug some up along Great Island and Ragged Rock Creek.
The Race and Gut have their share of medium sized blues with some at the Sluiceway as well.
Surfcasters are scoring some biggies at Watch Hill and Harkness.
FLUKE --- The season is closed in CT and NY but open in RI.
Final Contest Standings, the winners are:
1st --- 12.05# Jim Choinese
2nd --- 11.00# Zeb Edwards
3rd --- 10.20# Will Ward
PORGIES --- Porgy fishing season has been extended to December 31st, with the same size and bag limits. Big and plenty catches have been coming from Bartletts and most local reefs.
BLACKFISH --- Season opens in CT and NY October 1st but open in RI now. We're working on putting in a good selection of blackfish jigs this fall. We'll have green crabs in bulk like last Fall.
The Rivers End / Fishing Factory 3 Blackfish Contest gets underway Saturday, October 1st. You can register and weigh in at either shop.
BLUE CRABS --- Surprisingly we heard of some good catches in the mouth of the Connecticut River this week. All in traps.
FALSE ALBACORE --- Where did they go?? They went from great to gone. We had a few reports of some pods of albies at Watch Hill and the South Side of Fishers. We got a report this morning that they were in Plum Gut.

BONEFISH --- No they're not running in Long Island Sound, but we're putting together a trip to Acklins
Island in the Bahamas for February 2012. Call us or link here for more details.
