Rivers End Tackle Fishing Report 9-23
FISHING REPORT --- September 23, 2011
NEW HOURS
Sat --- 5am-5pm
Sun -- 5am-4pm
Mon-Fri -- 6am - 6pm
STRIPED BASS --- The local reefs have been good this week. Excellent reports have come from Long Sand Shoal, West Rip and Six Mile have had bass mostly on drifted eels. The waters have finally cleaned up in clarity but there's still some logs floating out there.
Bartletts and Hatchetts have had some bass both drifting deep and sometimes on the surface.
Montauk has some very good boat action drifting eels in the rips, the surf has been slow for this time of year. Watch Hill and some of the adjacent RI Beaches have had some schoolie action at dawn and dusk plus some larger girls at night.
BLUEFISH --- Chunkers from shore at the mouth of the Connecticut River are getting some nice sized blues. Blues have been mixed in with the bass at Bartletts.
FLUKE --- The season is closed in CT but still open in NY and RI.
Final Contest Standings, the winners are:
1st --- 12.05# Jim Choinese
2nd --- 11.00# Zeb Edwards
3rd --- 10.20# Will Ward
PORGIES --- Porgy fishing remains very good on most local reefs and even those that aren't close. Hatchetts and Bartletts are the easy ones. Porgy fishing is over after Monday the 6th, except for party boats.
BLACKFISH --- Season is closed in CT and NY until October 1st but open in RI now. We're working on putting in a good selection of blackfish jigs this fall. We'll have green crabs in bulk like last Fall.
The Rivers End / Fishing Factory 3 Blackfish Contest gets underway Saturday, October 1st. You can register and weigh in at either shop.
BLUE CRABS --- Haven't heard of any this week.
FALSE ALBACORE --- Good reports have come from the Sluiceway, Watch Hill to Weekapaug, both ends of Fishers Island and Gardiners. Finding them doesn't seem to be a problem. Getting them to hit and avoiding the run and gun crowd seems to be the challenge.
BONEFISH --- No they're not running in Long Island Sound, but we're putting together a trip to Acklins
Island in the Bahamas for February 2012. Call us or link here for more details.
